Creating Crowns In One Visit

one visit crownIn the past, the process of restoring a tooth with a custom crown took between two and three visits. However, our team understands that our patients already have hectic schedules, and can’t afford multiple to visits to address their dental concerns. Which is why your Greenville, TX, dentist uses the CEREC system to create and place a dental crown in only one visit!

When We Need Full and Partial Crowns

Crowns, whether full or partial, address issues too severe for a filling or bonding. We often use them to treat serious tooth decay, or to complete a root canal for an infected tooth. We repair cracks and chips, and help correct teeth worn-down due to the pressure of teeth grinding. We improve teeth that are misshapen or malformed, and for those with missing teeth, help anchor a bridge in place or restore a single tooth dental implant. A full covers everything above the gum line, the entire visible portion of the tooth. An inlay and onlay are partial, with an inlay fitting in between the cusps on top of the teeth, and the onlay fitting over the cusps. We create them all from ceramic, a strong material that absorbs bite forces and can also be tinted to blend with your smile!

The CEREC System

To start, we will remove a small section of outer structure, and then take a series of detailed images and impressions. We combine these images to create a 3D model. The model allows us to design your restoration with precision and accuracy, uploading the design into the onsite CEREC milling machine. The machine then crafts the restoration from solid ceramic, a stain resistant and durable material that we use to create inlays, onlays, and crowns.

Placement and Keeping Your Smile Strong

Once the restoration is ready, we check the fit and make any final adjustments to ensure a comfortable fit. Next, we place it with a powerful bonding agent. The entire process, start to finish, only takes one visit to complete, so you leave with a restored and healthy smile. To keep your new restoration strong, and protect your other teeth from decay and poor oral health, you should brush and floss your teeth daily to remove stray food particles and harmful oral bacteria. Make time to see us for a checkup and cleaning every six months too! If you have any questions about the CEREC process, then contact our team today.
